The Beverly Hilton Now Offering 'Wine Down Wednesdays'

Select glasses and bottles are 50 percent off

The Beverly Hilton is one of the world's most iconic hotels.

Which day of the week do you most feel the need to wind down with a glass of wine? You might answer "Every day!" And while you’ll still be correct, Wine Down Wednesdays are a trend that’s been catching on lately, and the Beverly Hilton has just launched one.

The Beverly Hilton, firmly situated in the one of chicest cities on the planet, is true in nature to image and trend, therefore one of the best spots we have found for a midweek glass of wine. Every Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. you and friends can take 50 percent off select wines by the glass or bottle. Some wines offered that we were impressed with were Robert Mondavi’s fume blanc and a Sebastiani zinfandel. Half off any of these is a steal.

"We wanted to give our guests a chance to try new wines and enjoy a little midweek break," Paul Carter, The Beverly Hilton’s food and beverage director, told us. "We have cozy fire pits and plush seating, and our recently redesigned poolside lounge is the perfect place to unwind."

Not only does wine taste better for some reason on Wednesday, but enjoying a nice glass with good company around their poolside fire is our type of relaxation.

REDUCED Hours Coming to an EPCOT Restaurant

Here at DFB, we keep you updated on any changes that could affect your Disney vacation.

That includes hotel renovations, ride closures, menu tweaks, and SO much more. And if you’re planning a trip to EPCOT, you’ll want to be aware of some changes at La Hacienda de San Angel, which seems to be gradually reducing its hours.

According to the Disney World website, La Hacienda de San Angel in EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion is currently open from 3PM-10PM. Starting May 9th, these hours will drop to 3PM-9PM. And starting May 17th, the restaurant will be closed on Mondays

…and Tuesdays.

Hours on Wednesdays-Sundays will remain at 3PM-9PM until May 23rd.

Then, starting May 23rd, these hours will go down to 3PM-7PM.

Hours are currently only available through June 14th, so there’s no way to know if these limited operations will last past then. But you’ll definitely want to keep this in mind next time you’re hunting for a dinner spot in EPCOT — or if you’re just craving tacos and margs!

Stay tuned to DFB — we’ll keep bringing you the latest Disney news.

The Mountain, once offered at $1 billion, gets a $350-million price cut

In Beverly Crest, a prime piece of land branded as the Mountain just got an avalanche of a price cut. After listing for $1 billion last summer, it’s now being offered at $650 million.

Real estate experts tout the property as the finest undeveloped parcel in Los Angeles – and perhaps deservedly so. At 157 acres, it’s roughly twice the size of Disneyland. It reigns over the city at Beverly Hills’ highest point, soaking in panoramic views from downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean to Catalina Island.

The 35% chop follows an alleged back-and-forth negotiation that happened last month in which developer Scott Gillen offered $400 million and the seller, Secure Capital Partners, countered with $600 million.

The deal, which was reported by TMZ, fizzled out from there, but it was likely never serious in the first place, according to sources unauthorized to comment on the deal.

Gillen has vast sums of money tied up in other projects around Los Angeles County. He spent $50 million on a 24-acre undeveloped property in Malibu three years ago, shattering the previous land sale record, and is currently developing the site as a five-home luxury development. Another of his projects, a 15,500-square-foot spec house dubbed New Castle, is currently listed at $85 million after three years on and off the market.

When the Mountain listed for $1 billion last year, it was the steepest asking price in L.A. history. At $650 million, it remains as such.

Other stratospheric price tags include Paul Allen’s 120-acre undeveloped plot in Beverly Crest, which listed last year for $150 million. In 2017, handbag tycoon Bruce Makowsky sought $250 million for his four-story mega-mansion in Bel-Air but has since lowered the price to $150 million.

L.A. has seen some staggering sales in recent years, but no closing price even sniffs at what the Mountain is asking. Hotelier Peter Morton currently holds the record after selling his two-parcel compound on Malibu’s so-called Billionaires’ Beach for $110 million last spring.

The Mountain is divided into 17 parcels, six of which are zoned for residential development. The plots could hypothetically hold a hyper-exclusive enclave of high-end homes, but listing agent Aaron Kirman previously told The Times that he envisions a single buyer looking to erect a private kingdom.

Hilton to Spin Off Hotel Properties Into Real-Estate Investment Trust

The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Liz Hoffman

Richard Rubin

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. is pursuing a spinoff of its hotels into a real-estate investment trust, a move that has become popular among companies looking to slim down and boost their stocks.

Hilton has sought the blessing of the Internal Revenue Service for the transaction, which would involve a large chunk of the hotels it owns, according to people familiar with the matter.

Hilton owns or leases 147 hotels around the world. Analysts have said the properties, which include hotels under the Hilton and DoubleTree banners, could be worth more than $10 billion.

By having gone to the IRS for approval already, Hilton is exempt from a bill pending in Congress that would ban such transactions. That legislation, part of a year-end tax deal that the House is set to vote on Thursday, grandfathers companies that sought an IRS ruling for their spinoffs before Dec. 7—which Hilton did, the people said.

An earlier version of the bill would have prevented the Hilton deal because it didn’t have that grandfather clause.
